Throughout the ages, the "human image" has remained as one of the most inspirational and continuing subjects for artists around the world. “Human Image” provides an expansive look at the ways in which artists from Europe and the United States have grappled with the theme of the human figure in a dazzling array of styles, from the postwar years through the first decade of the 21st century. The works include great artists such as Picasso, Matisse, Andy Warhol, Jean Dubuffet, Alberto Giacometti, Chuck Close and Herb Ritts. Altogether, it features 100 objects—including prints, drawings, photographs, paintings, and sculpture—in styles that range from biomorphic abstraction to Photorealism and beyond. Picasso's masterpiece from his later years, "Rape of the Sabine Women" is on exhibit in Japan for the first time.
